The Reverend Doctor Jo Bailey Wells

Jo Bailey Wells is an Associate Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry and Bible and Director of Anglican Studies at Duke Divinity School. Professor Wells teaches Old Testament and biblical theology, particularly in relation to its contemporary relevance for ministry.

Professor Wells' scholarly writing has focused on Old Testament theology. Her books include God's Holy People: A Theme in Biblical Theology (Sheffield, 2000) and Isaiah in the People's Bible Commentary series (BRF, 2006). She also enjoys devotional writing (for example, with Scripture Union, the College of Preachers and The Church Times), seeking to bring the fruits of biblical scholarship to a wider audience within the Church.

She is a priest ordained in the first wave of women priests in the Church of England who has previously served as dean of Clare College as well as lecturer in Old Testament at Ridley Hall, both in Cambridge, UK. She is married to Sam Wells, Dean of Duke Chapel, and they have two children.
